PQ–Practical Questions

Facts first:
F1) Successfully downloaded two desired items, one without and one with subtitles.
F2) Now, ice broken, MediathekView user interface is becoming understandable enough
F3) “SRT” and “TTML” subtitle files gotten – now I’ll try to synchronize them with my Windows Media Player, hoping it will be not that difficult…Then Comments:
No comment for now, but I assume it will be rather useful to spend a word or two about this happy experience…
Yours,- P.M.

Now I succeeded also in synchronizing the original downloaded “.mp4” file with the related “.srt” subtitle file, so to enjoy them on Windows Media Player, off-line.
Next days, as promised, I intend to let you know some comments about this whole experience.
Yours,- P.M.

@studio-pm I’m glad to see things are working now for you.
Would you mind if your “Step-by-step help” posting from monday would be removed from the forum?
Reason: if one is searching google for “mediathekview step by step” one will find this posting first in the results and this will not be of any help to her/him. -
=> Would you mind if your “Step-by-step help” posting … removed
Of course not, and I agree.- P.M.

Here you have the promised Conclusive Comments to this MediathekView experience of mine.
CC1) A residual difficulty is that at every new run I have got to wait for a surprisingly long and lengthy start up process, including a scanning of some 250 000 “Insgesamt” count, that I’d be happy to skip as I well know in advance what I’m looking for in the target “ARD Mediathek – Tagesschau 1 Das Erste” storage. But I do not intend here to ask “if and how” to possibly overcome such difficulty; for the reasons hereafter explained in some detail.
CC2) Not being a native German language speaker, so to reach an initial modest level of practical knowledge of use, I had to pay a too discouragingly high human price; an experience I do not intend to repeat. Indeed at conclusion of this experience I intend to withdraw from this very forum, for the hereafter exposed reasons. Reasons that, perhaps, you may consider for the future development of this otherwise very interesting tool.
CC3) In itself your attitude, as depicted in the next paragraph, is neither right nor wrong, it depends upon you strategy, your vision:
– If you see MediathekView as a purely “deutsch” tool, not aimed at anybody else but native German speakers, your current attitude is perfectly valid & coherent;
– If not, not.CC4) The MediathekView revealed to be an environment too hostile to non-native German Language speakers, as I am. Ideed, to break the initial wall of incomprehension, I ventured to deal with a unbearably hostile, scornful, arrogant, presumptuous human environment. An experience I do not intend to repeat, of course.-
So, so long.- P.M.

WTF are you complaining about?
MediathekView deals with German languag public TV station. So it is understandable and reasonable that everything is in German - the program itself as well as the documentation.
Most functions are also quite obvious - filters, etc. - and if you do not understand a specific word or a specific expression / sentence, there are online translators which are sometimes (not always) useful. And if these tools do not help, there is the forum to ask.
MediathekView is in no way “hostile to non-native German speakers” - at least not more than any English language program is to all non-native English speakers. And it appears that some English speakers (you obviously not included, since you try to learn German) tend to believe that their language is the only one anyone should use.

Es sollte eigentlich jedem längst klar geworden sein, daß dieses (Ex-) Mitglied mit seinen Beiträgen andere Ziele verfolgte als die mit seinen Fragen vorgetäuschten.

Mir nicht. Was genau meinst du?

@monkey mart Spätestens jetzt sollte jedem klar sein, dass die Beiträge dieses (Ex-)Mitglieds anderen Zwecken dienten als denen, die er mit seinen Anfragen vorgab.
